Kawani Kiwanga

Terrarium, 2022

Concrete Projects is pleased to be supporting Kapwani Kiwanga’s installation at the 59th Venice Biennale in the main exhibition of the Arsenale.

Terrarium is a new installation for The Milk of Dreams, curated by Cecilia Alemani. Terrarium is a maze-like environment populated by sand-filled glass sculptures. Vast painted curtains intend to introduce fluidity into the architecture of the Corderie and bring the luminous colour of an exterior landscape into the building.

The installation imagines sand a as a political material: a harmful product of the oil industry, the raw material for glass, and a reminder of an increasingly arid planet.
