Institutional support
Concrete Projects is pleased to support the production of Temitayo Ogunbiyi’s sculpture You will find Lagos in London living as part of Lagos, Peckham, Repeat: Pilgrimage to the Lakes at South London Gallery.
Known as ‘Little Lagos’, Peckham is home to one of the largest Nigerian diaspora communities in the UK. The exhibition showcases works by thirteen Nigerian and British-Nigerian artists and highlights the relationships, culture, shared history, communities and art that link the two places.
A new ‘playspace’ from Temitayo Ogunbiyi was commissioned be reflective of links between the institution’s local area of Peckham and Lagos, whilst encouraging children to interact and enjoy the sculpture, further connecting the institution with the wider community.
To conceive the structure and lines for this ‘playspace’ Ogunbiyi looks at the journey from Lagos to London using map applications. Specifically, she references the path walking from her home in Lagos, the interpretation of the flight route between London and Lagos, and various paths between Heathrow Airport and SLG.
The exhibition is co-curated by Folakunle Oshun, founder and director of the Lagos Biennial, together with South London Gallery.
